4Wave Inc Recieves Market Opportunity Award

Sterling, VA, October 19, 2004 – 4Wave Inc receives Market Opportunity Award during  Virginia’s Small Business Research Commercialization Awards ceremony. Six technology firms were announced as reciepeints. This program is designed to recognize the Virginia’s small businesses for achievements or potential in commercializing technology developed under the federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs and the Advanced Technology Program (ATP). The awards were announced October 13 at a reception during Virginia’s 10th Annual SBIR Conference in Arlington.

4Wave, Inc., the premier developer of multi-wavelength optical filters on a single chip for Wave Division Multiplexing systems and the recipient of an ATP award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, received the Market Opportunity Award, which recognizes achievement in the transitional state between a research and development breakthrough and the ability to gain market traction.

“The SBIR, STTR and ATP programs have provided the means for technology innovators in Virginia to explore high-risk research with a commercial end goal, with more than 2,800 Virginia awards totaling in excess of $725 million during the decade the Commonwealth has hosted this event,” said Secretary Huang. “Technology R&D projects like those recognized with this new awards program offer the greatest promise for new jobs and revenue growth for Virginia's small businesses.”

Eligible firms were Virginia winners of Phase II SBIR/STTR awards or ATP awards in the past three years. Applicants competed in a two-stage selection process and were evaluated on technical merit and market potential of the research, company success in commercialization and/or management team capacity to commercialize the research, and on financial potential to support commercialization.
